Profile
A well designed recreational canoe should not only have an average depth in the middle (12”), but also a low profile, overall.
This keeps the wind from blowing it around on open lakes and large rivers. White water canoes are made deep for heavy water paddling. The high ends often get caught by the wind like a sail. The Ranger Otter Canoe 16’ has 13¾” of depth at the 8’ mark, (an extra 1 ¾” for greater capacity)’ and a low profile overall for open water paddling. The Ranger Otter Canoe 16’ also incorporates and asymmetrical stern for correct trim and solo performance, with ¾” of rocker on the bottom. This canoe really has to be seen, and more importantly, paddled, to be appreciated.
